Every Action Counts: Join Us for Hunger Action Month

September is Hunger Action Month, an annual campaign led by the Feeding America network to encourage public engagement in the movement to end hunger. The Greater Boston Food Bank (GBFB) and its network are working together to raise awareness about hunger and inspire our neighbors to get involved.

Catalytic moments in history bring people together around a shared purpose, and today, we face such a moment. The largest cuts to SNAP and Medicaid in history have been signed into law, threatening the well-being of millions. We can end hunger, but only if we act together with urgency and determination.

There is plenty of food in Massachusetts, but 600,000 people in Eastern Massachusetts still don’t have the food they need to thrive. In fact, one in three people in Eastern Massachusetts experience food insecurity.

Every action counts in the fight against hunger. Here are a few ways you can help us meet this moment:

Donate to Help Close the Meal Gap

With recent decreases in federal hunger-relief funding, we need your help now more than ever. More food-insecure families will be forced to turn to an already overextended hunger-relief network as they lose vital benefits. Four GBFB donors have stepped forward to match all gifts made before December 31, 2025, up to $1 million. By giving today, you are helping the one in three people already struggling with food insecurity.

Advocate for Anti-Hunger Policies

Your voice matters. By raising our voices in unison, we can influence anti-hunger policy at the federal, state, and local levels. Consider telling your representative and senator that hunger relief needs to be prioritized. You can also sign up for GBFB Advocacy Email alerts to stay up-to-date.

Volunteer Your Time

Volunteers play a critical role in helping to end hunger in Eastern Massachusetts. You can find volunteer opportunities by visiting GBFB’s Need Food pantry finder page and reaching out to a partner agency near you.

Spread the Word on Social Media

Use your social network to raise awareness of hunger by sharing pictures, stories, and calls to action. Throughout September, we are celebrating Hunger Action Month by sharing ways you can get involved. Use the hashtags #HungerActionMonth and #EndHungerHere and tag @Gr8BosFoodBank to join the conversation.
